Our Story
The Waste and Environmental Foundation (WAEF) began not in a boardroom, but on a flooded street in the Niger Delta. A group of concerned residents — engineers, teachers, traders, and youth — asked a simple question: “Who is responsible for this?”
They organised their first community clean‑up, pulling 200 kg of pure water sachets and plastic bottles from a single street gutter. They were shocked by the volume. They were more shocked when a local recycler offered to pay them for the cleaned material.
In that moment, a lightbulb went on: What if cleaning the environment could pay for itself? What if waste was not a problem, but a raw material for a new local economy?
Today, WAEF is a registered Nigerian NGO (CAC, SCUML, TIN‑enabled), a recognised voice for grassroots environmental action, and a movement of communities turning plastic pollution into green jobs, restored mangroves, and environmental justice.
