Waste & Environmental Foundation
Turning the Tide for the South-South. We transform plastic waste into green jobs, restore mangroves, and advocate for environmental justice — one community at a time.
Rooted in the Niger Delta
Speaking the Language of Change
What We Do
Four pillars, one mission — a cleaner, wealthier, healthier South‑South.
Sensitisation & Education
Delivering our flagship 50‑Topic Pidgin Curriculum through town halls, schools, markets, radio, and social media — because everyone deserves to understand.
Waste-to-Wealth
Training youth for door‑to‑door collection enterprises. Building community aggregation hubs. Supporting upcycling cooperatives turning sachets into bags, tiles, and mats.
Ecosystem Restoration
Quarterly mangrove clean‑ups and replanting. Beach restoration at Ibeno and across the coast. Plastic‑bottle house demonstration projects.
Advocacy & Justice
Training citizens to document pollution and demand accountability. Campaigning for Polluter Pays and Extended Producer Responsibility in the Niger Delta.
The Waste and Environmental Foundation (WAEF) is a registered Nigerian non‑profit born in the creeks and streets of the South‑South. We are environmentalists, community organisers, educators, and local youth who refuse to wait for somebody else to clean up our home.
We speak Pidgin. We understand the power of the CDA and the market women’s association. We know that lasting change begins under the mango tree, not in an air‑conditioned office.
Our mission is simple: turn the waste choking our gutters, mangroves, and air into wealth that sticks in local pockets. Through practical education, hands‑on clean‑ups, youth‑led door‑to‑door collection enterprises, and fierce advocacy for environmental justice, we are proving that a cleaner, healthier Niger Delta is possible — and profitable.
“The Niger Delta is a place of breathtaking beauty and heartbreaking contradiction. We sit on unimaginable oil wealth, yet our creeks are choked with plastic, our air is heavy with soot, and our gutters overflow every rainy season. For too long, our communities have been told to wait — for the government, for the oil companies, for a miracle.
The Waste and Environmental Foundation was born from a simple belief: we are not waiting anymore. A pure water sachet is not trash; it is a tile waiting to be moulded. An unemployed youth is not a problem; they are a green entrepreneur waiting for a chance. This is our home. We are turning the tide.”
